Ownership Disclosure
The Kansas City Orthopaedic Institute meets the definition of a "physician-owned hospital" under 42CFR489.3. This means that one or more physicians have an ownership or financial interest in the hospital. The physician who referred you to this hospital for a surgical procedure may be one of the physicians that have ownership or financial interest in this facility. It is your right to choose the hospital you wish. Most physicians with privileges at Kansas City Orthopaedic Institute also are on staff at one or more other hospitals. Non-Discrimination

Contracted Services
Some services or medical products prescribed by your physician during your stay at Kansas City Orthopaedic Institute may be provided through an agreement with another organization and will be billed separately by another entity or authorized subcontractor to you or your insurance company directly. You will be provided with a list of products that may not be covered by your insurance company at admission. If you object to the use of any product provided by a contractor, you are responsible for discussing that objection with your physician prior to your procedure being performed as your physician is solely responsible for directing your care and treatment at KCOI. All billing questions regarding the contractors should be directed to their individual offices as the staff from KCOI is not billing for the supplies or services the contractor has provided. Healthcare Directives
Advance Directives and Do Not Resuscitate Orders The Kansas City Orthopaedic Institute will provide information and education to all patients about their rights and options as well as the hospital's policy regarding Advance Directives We will also provide the appropriate Advance Directive documents to all patients who request them, have personnel available to explain and assist in the completion of the Advance Directive document, and maintain completed Advance Directive document in the patient’s record (any document stating the patient's health care instructions is acceptable. No patient will be discriminated against nor will patient care be compromised in any way by the directions provided or by the decision to either complete or not complete an Advance Directive. Kansas City Orthopaedic Institute will not recognize a Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) request contained within an Advanced Directive as a Do Not Resuscitate Order. To implement a Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) request a staff physician must write and sign a clear Do Not Resuscitate order. Without a written order by a staff physician the policy of Kansas City Orthopaedic Institute is to in use all interventions and measures available to maintain and sustain life. Provision of Emergency Services
The Kansas City Orthopaedic Institute’s scope of care is limited to orthopaedics. Physicians are available on call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week but may not be on the premises 24 hours per day. There is a full compliment of emergency equipment available and the nursing staff is trained to use that equipment and in the basic and advanced life support should an emergency occur at KCOI. During your stay, should you need services not available at KCOI we have contractual agreements and affiliations with most surrounding hospitals to provide those services. Transportation to and from an affiliated facility will be arranged by KCOI and based on the level of care required. |
