Ortho Urgent Care Now Open in Leawood

South Kansas City area residents gain access to specialized care for orthopedic injuries after work, after school and after hours

Ortho Urgent Care at Kansas City Orthopaedic InstituteLeawood, Kan. – November 28, 2016 – Patients with urgent orthopedic injuries can now receive specialized care after hours at the region’s only dedicated orthopedic hospital, Kansas City Orthopaedic Institute. The all-new Ortho Urgent Care center, which opens today at 3651 College Blvd. in Leawood, combines orthopedic expertise with convenience for musculoskeletal injuries caused by sporting mishaps as well as everyday falls and other accidents.

Staffed by experts who specialize in orthopedics and sports medicine, Ortho Urgent Care is now open for patients 12 and older with fractures, sprains, strains, torn ligaments, muscle contusions, and minor lacerations (for concussions and major orthopedic trauma that threatens life or limb, however, patients should call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room). Walk-in service is available seven days a week: weekday evenings 5:30 to 9 p.m., Saturdays 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays noon to 6 p.m.

“We recognized the need for treatment options beyond traditional urgent care or emergency rooms, where orthopedic specialization may be lacking,” said Charles Rhoades, M.D., CEO of Kansas City Orthopaedic Institute. “Expanding our services to include Ortho Urgent Care allows us to better serve our community’s need for convenient after-hours care while building on our commitment to orthopedic excellence.”

As the newest addition to the hospital’s comprehensive approach to orthopedic care, Ortho Urgent Care provides the expertise of more than 25 board-certified orthopedic physicians, as well as access to onsite diagnostic imaging, bracing, splinting, casting and rehabilitation therapy.

“For common orthopedic injuries, Ortho Urgent Care provides an excellent alternative to the E.R., where wait times can be lengthy, copays can be high, and waiting rooms can pose a higher risk of exposure to unrelated illnesses,” said Mark Rasmussen, M.D. “Because we are dedicated exclusively to orthopedics, we provide advanced specialization in a clean, comfortable and convenient environment.”
