Our inpatient and outpatient therapy teams include licensed therapists with advanced certifications and training across a full range of rehabilitation services. With five locations, one inside KCOI and four Performance Rehab locations, are teams are ready to help you live a better, healthier life. Meet our team of therapists:

 

Brian Adams, DPTBrian Adams, DPT, (151st) has been certified as a Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Sports Physical Therapy since 2006 and utilizes his background and 20+ years of experience in outpatient orthopedic and sports physical therapy to help athletes safely return to the sports that they love to play. Brian earned his bachelor’s degree in exercise science in 1995 and his doctorate in physical therapy from Creighton University in 2000.
Allie Barnett, MS, OTR/L, CHTAllie Barnett, MS, OTR/L, CHT, is a Certified Hand Therapist with advanced training in Astym® treatment. She specializes in hand and upper extremity rehabilitation, soft tissue therapy, custom Orthosis fabrication and ergonomic assessments. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Culver-Stockton College and her Master of Science in occupational therapy from Washington University – St. Louis.
Brian Boerner, PTBrian Boerner, PT, (75th) also works as a personal trainer for clients as well as a clinical instructor for local PT and PTA schools. In 2013, he received the award for Clinical Instructor of the Year from KU Medical Center. Brian earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas in 1997, Associate degree in Physical Therapy in 1999, and Master’s degree in Physical Therapy in 2004 from the University of Kansas Medical Center.
Ben Brandt, PTBen Brandt, PT, (135th) uses a wide variety of manual therapy treatment methods including Muscle Energy, High-Velocity Low-Amplitude (HVLA) Manipulation, Dry Needling, Cupping and Kinesio Taping. Ben graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in Biology in 2012. He received his DPT from the University of Saint Mary in 2015 and has 4 years experience as a Physical Therapist in Outpatient Orthopedics, Spine and Sports Medicine.
Sam Brethauer, Head Athletic Trainer (Aquinas)Sam Brethauer, Head Athletic Trainer (Aquinas), nominated in 2016 for the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness as a Wellbeing Champion serving in the State of Kansas. Sam graduated from The University of Kansas (2004) with his BS in Athletic Athletic Training and became Certified as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist and a Certified Athletic Trainer . He completed his MS in Exercise Science with an emphasis in Biomechanics from The University of Kansas and his second Master’s, Healthcare Administration from Park University.
Jason Brinkman, MPTJason Brinkman, MPT, specializes in physical therapy for knees, hips, shoulders and ankles, as well as sports medicine and orthopedics. He also has advanced training in Sportsmetrics™ (a type of ACL injury prevention). Jason earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology and his Master of Physical Therapy from Rockhurst University.
Mark Buckingham, MSPTMark Buckingham, MSPT, (135th) specialty training and passion for working with athletes and spine patients. He has been a member or certified by numerous groups including NSCA (CSCS), USAW (USA Weight-Lifting), KPTA, APTA, NHPI, CAP’s. Mark completed his degree in Biomechanics and Exercise Science, with a minor in Nutrition from Western Illinois University and went on to further his education in KU-Med’s Physical Therapy program.
Chris Burch, Director of Sports Medicine and OutreachChris Burch, Director of Sports Medicine and Outreach, passed the National Athletic Training Board of Certification to become a Certified Athletic Trainer. While working, Chris assists with prevention and management of injuries, athlete monitoring and assessment, motion analysis and performance training. He graduated from University of Kansas with a BS in Athletic Training.
Janet Carson, PTJanet Carson, PT, is an inpatient physical therapist who specializes in post-surgical rehabilitation. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from The University of Kansas.
Paul Craig, DPT, CSCSPaul Craig, DPT, CSCS, (135th & 154th) approaches physical therapy from his extensive work in a wide range of clinical internships and is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. Paul received his Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Exercise and Health Sciences from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2010 and earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree from Rockhurst University in 2014.
Marty Cummings DPT, CMPTMarty Cummings DPT, CMPT, (75th) is a certified manual physical therapist specializing in spine and peripheral joints. His passion is treating athletes and furthering his education to best treat his patients. Marty earned his Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Rockhurst University in 2010 and his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Rockhurst University in May 2016.
Andrew DeBoest, DPTAndrew DeBoest, DPT, (154th) uses experience from his clinical rotations and continued education courses to focus treatment on restoration of function through effective manual techniques and specific exercise routines. Andrew received his Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from the University of Kansas in 2011 and went on to earn his Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Saint Mary.
Zinka Duric, DPTZinka Duric, DPT, (135th) interested in working with patients of all ages, pediatrics to geriatrics, and her specialties range from neurological to orthopedic & sports medicine. Zinka received her bachelor’s degree in psychology with an emphasis in pre-physical therapy from William Jewell College, followed by her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Southwest Baptist University in 2020.
Barry Engelken, MSPTBarry Engelken, MSPT, specializes in physical therapy for knees, hips, shoulders, feet and ankles, as well as sports medicine and orthopedics. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Human Biology and his Master of Physical Therapy from The University of Kansas.
Aaron Fast, DPTAaron Fast, DPT, (135th) joined the performance rehab team in 2016 and works with chronic pain patients to manage and overcome their pain while restoring them to a higher level of activity. Aaron received his undergraduate degree in Exercise Science from the University of Kansas in 2010. He then went on to earn his Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Saint Mary.
Derek Feist, DPTDerek Feist, DPT, (75th) areas of interest include movement disorders, sport-specific training, and rehabilitating athletes to their fullest potential. Derek earned his Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Exercise Physiology from Kansas State University in 2014 and his Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Kansas Medical Center in May 2017.
Katarina Fitzpatrick, Pilates InstructorKatarina Fitzpatrick, Pilates Instructor, (75th) joined Performance Rehab in 2017 as a Pilates instructor.
Jennifer French, PT, DPTJennifer French, PT, DPT, (75th) has treated in clinics specializing in out-patient orthopedics and sports medicine.
She has been participating in the North American Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy program to earn her Certification in Manual Therapy with the belief that hands on/manual techniques are one of the greatest assets a physical therapist can offer a patient. Jennifer graduated from Creighton University in 2011.
Kendra Gage, DPT, OCSKendra Gage, DPT, OCS, (75th) has a passion for dance medicine and is proud to be the lead physical therapist for Kansas City Ballet. She earned her bachelor’s degree in dance at the University of Kansas in 2003 and her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2007 from Washington University in St. Louis. Kendra has earned an orthopedic certification specialty and completed an orthopedic residency with Evidence in Motion.
Laurie Garber, OTR/L, CHTLaurie Garber, OTR/L, CHT, is a Certified Hand Therapist. She specializes in hand and upper extremity rehabilitation, and custom Orthosis fabrication. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from The University of Kansas.
Kristi Hansen, OTR/L, CHTKristi Hansen, OTR/L, CHT, is a Certified Hand Therapist. She specializes in hand and upper extremity rehabilitation, and custom Orthosis fabrication. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from Newman University. (She also completed pre-occupational therapy courses at Kansas State University.)
Michelle Hodge, PT, DPTMichelle Hodge, PT, DPT, specializes in physical therapy for the spine, hips and lower extremities, as well as orthopedics. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Truman State University and her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Creighton University. She also completed an orthopedic residency at Creighton University Medical Center.
Tami Janssen, OTR/L, CHTTami Janssen, OTR/L, CHT, specializes in hand care and splint fabrication. She is a current member of the Kansas City Hand Rehabilitation Special Interest Group.​ Tami attended Rockhurst University and received her Bachelors in Psychology in 1997 and then her Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy in 1999. She then went on to become a Certified Hand Therapist in 2004.
Stephanie S. Jones, MPTStephanie S. Jones, MPT, is an inpatient physical therapist who specializes in post-surgical rehabilitation, manual therapy, geriatrics and home health. She also has experiencing treating muscle imbalances, acute injuries and neurological injuries. Stephanie earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Jackson State University and her Master of Science in physical therapy from Wichita State University.
Chris Karson, PTChris Karson, PT, specializes in Astym® treatment (soft tissue therapy) and sports medicine, including rehabilitation for running injuries. Chris earned his Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from The University of Kansas.
Sue Klein, PT, MTC, CFCSue Klein, PT, MTC, CFC, (135th) areas of interest include treating patients with spinal orthopedic problems and craniofacial pain and dysfunction. Sue graduated from the University of Kansas Medical Center with a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy and continued her education at the University of Saint Augustine, where she earned certifications in manual and craniofacial therapy.
Sarah Kwapiszeski, DPTSarah Kwapiszeski, DPT, (135th) particularly relates to all of our lower extremity high school athletes. She recently started working with more of our vestibular and neuro cases and enjoys the complexities as it relates to her research performed at the KUMC Reach Lab under Sandra Billinger. Sarah graduated with her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in May 2017.
Katy Mercurio, DPTKaty Mercurio, DPT, (75th & 135th) has led an extensive career serving as a primary provider of physical therapy services for a number of professional dance companies and has completed all modules of Westside Dance Physical Therapy’s Dance Medicine Practicum, a series of courses focused on the clinical assessment and management of dance injuries and patients. Katy received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Creighton University in 2015.
Nicole Miller, PT, DPT, specializes in physical therapy for knees, hips, shoulders and ankles, as well as orthopedics. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Ottawa University and her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from University of Saint Mary.
Alison Parks, DPTAlison Parks, DPT, (75th) has benefited from exposure to a wide variety of patients and clients throughout her clinical practice and enjoys working with runners and athletes of all ages. Alison earned her Bachelor’s degree from Southeast Missouri State University in 2015 and earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy from Rockhurst University in May 2018.
Rachel Perry, DPTRachel Perry, DPT, (75th) as a physical therapist Rachel includes a holistic approach to programming, Pose Method of running, and heavy loading/powerlifting. Rachel holds a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, KS as well as a Bachelor of Fine Arts in musical theatre and minor in dance from Millikin University’s School of Theatre and Dance.
Harrison Petrik, DPTHarrison Petrik, DPT, (135th) passionate about working with athletes who are striving to reach their full potential and helping patients of all ages return to living a healthy, active lifestyle. Harrison graduated from Kansas State University in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in Biology. He went on to receive his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Kansas Medical Center in 2020.
Alicia Pille, OTR/L, specializes in occupational therapy for hands and upper extremity rehabilitation, and custom Orthosis fabrication. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from the University of Kansas and her Master of Occupational Therapy from The University of Kansas Medical Center.
Hannah Rawson, PT, DPTHannah Rawson, PT, DPT, specializes in physical therapy for knees, hips, shoulders and ankles, as well as orthopedics. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Movement Science and her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Missouri State University.
Scott Steenhard, MPT, OCSScott Steenhard, MPT, OCS, is a Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist and Certified Manual Therapist. He specializes in physical therapy for the spine, shoulders and lower extremities, as well as manual therapy and orthopedics. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Life Science from Kansas State University and his Master of Physical Therapy from Wichita State University.
Ward Strahan, PT, Director of Work CompWard Strahan, PT, Director of Work Comp, (135th) joined Performance Rehab in the fall of 2017 after 16 years of experience in out-patient orthopedic clinics with a heavy focus on the work comp population. Ward earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Kansas in 1998, and a Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy from KU Medical Center in 2001.
Jackie Stuewe, DPTJackie Stuewe, DPT, (135th) special interests include temporomandibular disorders (TMJ/TMD), facial pain and headaches, as well as using her manual therapy skills to treat thoracic and rib dysfunctions and lumbosacral movement disorders. Jackie earned her Bachelor’s degree in Life Science from Kansas State University in 2006 and her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Kansas Medical Center in May 2009.
Anjali Tata-Hudson, PTAAnjali Tata-Hudson, PTA, (75th) special interests include manual therapy, dance medicine, pilates and progressing functional training. She is a certified Yoga Instructor and feels most fulfilled when helping others. Anjali earned her B.A. in Anthropology from UC Berkeley, M.F.A. in Dance from UCLA, and a degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant from MCC Penn Valley.
Erin Thomas, OTR/L, CHT, is a Certified Hand Therapist. She specializes in hand and upper extremity rehabilitation, and custom Orthosis fabrication. She earned her Bachelor of Health Science in Occupational Therapy from The University of Missouri.
Liz Trevino, Wellness Coordinator and Pilates InstructorLiz Trevino, Wellness Coordinator and Pilates Instructor, (75th) uses her knowledge and love of dance to give her clients of all backgrounds a well-rounded and effective session that enables them to live their day to day lives in a healthy and safe manner. Previously a dancer and instructor in her earlier career, Liz is proud to be the Pilates instructor for the Kansas City Ballet company.
Cindy Vickers, MS, OTR/L, CHTCindy Vickers, MS, OTR/L, CHT, is a Certified Hand Therapist. She specializes in hand and upper extremity rehabilitation, and custom Orthosis fabrication. Cindy earned her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from The University of Kansas.
Amy Wastler, MPTAmy Wastler, MPT, specializes in physical therapy for knees, hips, shoulders and ankles, as well as manual therapy and orthopedics. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology and her master of physical therapy from Rockhurst University.
