Job Description

Orthopaedic Urgent Care-Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner, PRN

 

The Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner, under the supervision of the supervising physician will evaluate urgent and subacute orthopedic problems and provide orthopaedic care. The PA/NP daily duties includes performing medical histories, conducting physical examinations, ordering diagnostic tests, administering treatments (including but not limited to splinting, suturing, fracture or joint reductions, joint injections), prescribing medications, counseling and educating patients. The PA/NP must be comfortable working independently in a fast paced environment.

 

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of orthopaedic principles and practice protocols
  • Perform and document patient medical history and physical examination. Observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress in patient chart
  • Identify normal and abnormal findings on history and physical exam and commonly performed laboratory and radiological studies
  • Order rehab therapy, procedures, medications, diagnostic, radiology, and laboratory studies, after examination and assessment of patient
  • Demonstrate the ability to remain calm and effective in emergency situations and establish a leadership role in an emergency
  • Demonstrate knowledge of current and emerging trends in orthopaedic technologies, techniques, issues, and approaches
  • Demonstrates the ability to maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards in accordance with CMS standards
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of medications, with their indications, contraindications, dosing, side effects, and correct administration
  • Demonstrate effective communication with patients, staff members, and supervising physician
  • Demonstrate a professional, pleasant image while interacting with a variety of personalities and cultures
  • Maintains strict confidentiality. Treats staff, physicians, patients, and visitors with dignity and respect
  • Routine communication with supervising physicianSkills:
  • Knowledge of orthopaedic practice and care
  • Knowledge of examination, diagnostic and treatment procedures
  • Knowledge of orthopaedic equipment
  • Ability to identify and resolve problem while using good reasoning and judgment.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively orally, written and electronically
  • Ability to work in a fast paced clinical/hospital area with multiple interruptions

  • 5 year relevant experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education & experience.
  • Current Kansas license
